Define Activities

Define Activities is the process of identifying and documenting the specific actions to be performed to produce the project deliverables. The key benefit of this process is that it decomposes work packages into schedule activities that provide a basis for estimating, scheduling, executing, monitoring, and controlling the project work.

A few things to keep in mind, as it relates to process and the use of the activity list;

  • The Work Breakdown Structure is created before the activity list, as the creation of the activity list process involves taking the WBS work packages and decomposing them into the activities that are required to produce the Wok package deliverables.
  • A WBS is a list of what we are making – It is DELIVERABLE focused.
    (During Scope Management Process).
  • An ACTIVITY LIST is a list of the activities we will engage in during the project. During the process deliverables are Decomposed into smaller deliverables, or work packages.
  • During the creation of the Activity List, the Milestones are determined – Milestones are significant events within the project schedule. They are NOT Work Activities.
